## Physics Forces Review

Definitions

• Newton's First Law - An object at rest tends to stay at rest and an object in motion tends to stay in motion at a constant velocity unless acted upon by an unbalanced force.
• Newton's Second Law - The acceleration of an object is directly proportional to the net force acting on the object, is in the direction of the net force, and inversely proportional to the mass of the object
• Newton's Third Law - Whenever one object exerts a force on a second object, the second object exerts an equal and opposite force on the first.
Layman's Terms

• Newton's 1st Law - An object tends to stay at rest or stay in motion at the same speed, unless something else makes it do something else
• Newton's 2nd Law - F=ma
• Newton's 3rd Law - For every action there is an equal and opposite reaction

For equations, sorry, you can't really have a Quizlet set for them, but here are some tips for memorizing equations. First, you can try writing down the equation several times. Also, you can try saying it out loud, or visualizing the shape of it. Lastly, this one works the best for me, try using the equation as much as possible in your practice problems so that you remember them.

## Newton's Third Law

I know it's the same thing, but doesn't it make more sense to say
"For every action there is an equal and opposite reaction" ?
