  1. Big Three
    1. George Clemenceau, the Prime Minister of France
      • Revenge and to punish Germans for what they have done
      • He wanted to make Germany pay for the damage done during the war
      • He also wanted to weaken Germany so France would never be invaded again
      • Insisted on the conference held in France to show the destruction
    2. Woodrow Wilson, the President of America
      • Make world “safe for democracy”
      • End the war by making a fair peace
      • In 1918, he published Fourteen Points for post war peace, wanted disarmament, and the League of Nations
      • Entered the war for ideological reasons
    3. David Lloyd George, the Prime Minister of Britain
      • He said he would make Germany pay – because he knew that was what the British people wanted to hear
      • He wanted justice, but he did NOT want revenge
      • Peace must NOT BE HARSH
      • Tried to get “half way point” between
      • Expand British Empire – maintain British control of seas and expand British trade
      • More realistic towards the consequences of harsh peace treaty
All of them wanted to stop a war from ever happening again, but they did not agree on how to do this.
